Last Wednesday we entered the season of Lent. It is an important season in our church year. Our church calendar was originally used in a European setting, meaning that Lent was celebrated in with the dawning of Spring after the harsh cold of winter. It was a time when households would clean out larder and make preparations for the growing seasons of Spring and Summer.
For Christians, the season of Lent has often been used as a time of spiritual reflection as we move toward Easter, and the life-changing events of Christ’s death and resurrection with brings hope and salvation to all who believe. It is always a good exercise to ask ourselves the deeper questions concerning our relationship with Christ, Do we still love him with our whole heart and our neighbours as ourselves?
The prophet says: “Sow to yourself righteousness. Reap the fruit of steadfast love. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord that he might rain righteousness upon you” (Hosea 10:12)
You are about to a new phase of your parish life as a new minister is coming to you in a few short weeks. As you prepare to receive her, and the gifts of Christ she brings with her, use this time to prepare your hearts for greater service of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.
Rev Ian Oates, Locum Minister

General Information for Evensong in 2023
We are thrilled that we can come together for 5 Evensongs this year and especially welcome the parish of All Saints , Rosebud who is participating for the first time. Evensong is a particularly beautiful Anglican evening service. It is a gentle and peaceful way to worship together and we have found that people join us every Evensong for that reason. For some, it is an important link with memories of the past. We hope you all find that same sense of peace as we come together this year.
The next two services will be on Sunday 26th February at 5.p.m. at St John’s, Sorrento and Sunday 23rd April at 5.p.m St Mark’s, Balnarring.
