Bartimaeus – a poem of redemption Mark 10:46-52
Held am I – yet holding, hands outstretched – empty, and full. Fill me yet to overflowing, if you would.
Call me over – I cannot go, I know – me.
Good at making noise, part of the trade you know – Yelling “Men of Israel have pity on me poor, blind.”
But you don’t know – I know
Empty yet full, full of anger, full of tiredness Pain, heartache – Empty.
Call me over – I cannot go, Noisy one – me. Jesus, Son of David, Call me.
I have no right you see, really to ask – could it be?
Jesus, you know
Son of David – God who sees
Have pity on me Lord – only you know me Noisy one, full – yet empty.
What I have I would give – if only… What do I want?
You. Only You.
Take my fullness – anger, tiredness, pain, heartache Then would I be full
empty to be filled with you
Then would I see – and You in me No longer holding – only held No longer empty – only full
Door to life and all else You
Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me. God who sees.
