During the month of July, we are looking at different types of prayer. Anne Cranwell will be preaching this Sunday on Inner Healing prayer. Anne and Kevin have many years of training and experience in this type of prayer, and I look forward to hearing from Anne. Our readings this Sunday have been selected because of the theme. The reading from 2 Samuel is the exception to this, but it holds some relevance. In this reading we see David bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem with great rejoicing. He dances before the Ark with complete abandon to the praise in his heart and for the glory of God alone. He is so happy to be bringing the Ark home that he has no regard for his own dignity, even as the King of Israel. Watching this spectacle from her window is David’s wife, Michal. She is not amused to see her husband, the King, dancing around in very little clothing in such a public way. In her heart Michal despises David and she becomes angry. Take note of those words, ‘in her heart’. Michal made an attitude change in her heart which affected her life and that of David from that day on. She took offense at him. Since what he was doing was in worship to the Lord this was not appropriate. The open wound of that offense led to a wound within her being which prevented her from having children to David. Many times we carry offense, anger, hurts and other things within us. In our hearts we agree with the feeling and hold on to it. The agreement sets up a place for those feelings to remain long after what caused them is a distant memory. What hurts the heart leads to mental, emotional and sometimes physical hurt. This is not what the Lord wants for his precious children. Of course, not all infertility has this as a cause, just as not all mental or physical illness is caused by these inner hurts, but they can be. Modern psychology has researched these things and found that trauma, even in a newborn child, can cause ongoing mental and emotional issues into adulthood. Hurts caused by others, and hurts we take on ourselves all have the potential to bring consequences. Inner healing prayer is God’s gift to us to be able to invite the Holy Spirit to change these things and bring the fruit of the Spirit into our lives instead. Have you a need for this? Ask for help.

Op Shop…

We have had a notice in the pew sheet about our Op Shop for some time now. We are in real need of volunteers to assist us, especially on Fridays. At this stage the committee has decided to appeal for help once more, but without enough staff, the Op Shop cannot remain open on Friday mornings. At the moment Edna and Ellen are covering multiple shifts and we would like to relieve them of some of them. If you can spare some time to help, please see Edna South or another member of our Op Shop Committee: Vicki Brown, Lorraine Strickland, Richard Watson, Graeme and Cheryl King or Rev’d Janice. Thanks.
